Treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses with antipsychotic medication in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
For initiation and/or duration of treatment in adults, the recommended starting dose is 25 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 150 mg daily.
Side effects are generally mild to moderate in nature. The most common ones are: nausea, constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, dry mouth, tremor, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, tremor, stomach cramps, constipation, diarrhea, or upset stomach. Serious but rare side effects include allergic reactions, weight loss, bone loss, and visual disturbances (redness, contrast enhancement).

Use with caution in patients with a history of epilepsy or other neurological disorders where the risk of seizures is increased due to anticonvulsant medication. Do not use in patients with a history of bipolar illness. Use with caution in patients at increased risk for bipolar disorder. Avoid prolonged use and monitor for changes in bipolar disorder symptoms while taking zyprexa.

Do not use if you have a history of seizures, if you have recently received a prescription of zyprexa, if you are a woman, if you have diabetes, if you have renal impairment, if you are pregnant, if you are breast-feeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to zyprexa and other CNS or nervous system depressants should not take zyprexa. Patients with diabetes. Patients with a history of seizures. Dosage should not exceed 150 mg daily. Use with caution in the elderly; elderly patients have a greater risk of extrapyramidal symptoms including dizziness and drowsiness. Elderly patients have a greater risk of metabolic diseases including polypharmacy and diabetes mellitus. Drug interactions may occur with other medications or with some foods, especially antacids.
